As an African-American woman who experienced acne as a young adult, I did not see many dermatologists who looked like me. Not only does dermatology affect the hair, skin, or nails, it also affects one’s confidence and self-esteem. I was greatly affected by my acne, and once I found a dermatologist that cared about helping me get it under control, my eyes were opened to a field of medicine in which I thought I could make an impact with my patients.
